1000 Mothers PV advocates for states to provide a source of compensation funds for the financial losses and expenses of all victims of violent crime, including the family of victims who may have contributed to the crime. These programs should be funded by fees assessed to offenders as well as from other sources.

Every state in the country offers this type of benefit, though eligibility requirements may vary.
Under the California law (Government Code Sections 13959-13969.3), qualifying victims of crime may receive financial assistance for losses resulting from a crime when they cannot be reimbursed by other sources
