Two community groups that help families of homicide victims are sponsoring an event tonight at St. Augustine's Church, in Oakland.1000 Mothers and "Families and Friends of Murder Victims" will host a healing evening and a memorial service for victims at the church tonight at 7:00 p.m.

Lorrain Taylor, the director of 1000 Mothers To Prevent Violence and a survivor of violence herself -- her two sons were murdered a decade ago in Oakland -- will be speaking at the event, and she'll also be launching a new initiative called "Project Smart," which aims to help mothers and grandmothers who are raising children orphaned to violence.

Taylor is hoping to recruit 25 families over the coming weeks and months. St. Augustine is located at 400 Alcatraz Ave., in Oakland.

Hope to see you there.
